As teachers, we all know that summer reading is vital in the prevention of the dreaded “summer slide” for our students.  So I created these summer reading challenges that combine a calendar (upper grades) or a road map (lower grades) in which kids can document their reading progress.  Here’s what’s included in both a beach theme and a camping theme:

1) Upper level reading challenge with a blank calendar inside where students can write in the titles of the book(s) they are reading.
2) Lower level reading challenge with a “road map” where students can color in pictures to represent the books they have read.
3) List of online ebooks websites and databases students can use to continue listening to stories and researching topics of interest.
4) Editable versions of both upper and lower reading challenges where you can insert your own ebooks and/or databases and even personalize it with your school’s name.
